I had a wonderful time attending the SIIM 2015 meeting in DC between 28th to 30th May 2015 after a missed chance in 2014 when i was a PGY1 resident with no time off. Two weeks after attending the ACR conference, I was moved by the ‘dorky ‘ feeling , the upbeat mood of the attendees who were not all gloomy about the bad future of radiology , but expectant to position themselves for the future of radiology where informatics is core.
In what my friends from Babson would note as strategic thinking , I focussed on the hackathon , utilizing OpenMRS to consume FHIR images from the hackathon server incorporated into the patient record (this won the bes tof the hackathon for the hackathon).
Here are some summary notes i took away from the meeting
Interesting research areas
- Operator dependent factors about imaging protocols including positioning, Tech QA etc remain a key issue
Epic and CDSS for radiology
Epic explained how protocols will work for CDSS for radiology - The rules will be enforced at the time of order , then modified later on what was actually done .
